Copying and Restoration

We can bring your old or damaged photographs back to life.

Your original photo never leaves our store. We scan it electronically and then our PhotoShop artists make all their corrections in a digital file.

After the image file is repaired and color enhanced, we make long-lasting photo prints.

Do all this

• Take unwanted people out of the picture
• Put in elements from other pictures
• Eliminate red eyes
• Resize and crop to fit larger or smaller frames
• Make several photos into a collage

The cost of copying and restoration depends on the amount of damage to to original, and the amount of labor involved - but the finished results are priceless! Additional copies are extremely inexpensive.

If you ask us to copy a picture and we decline, it’s because U.S. and International Copyright Laws strictly control what we can do.

It’s not that we don’t want to make you happy, and it’s not because we don’t want to make a fair profit. We really do!

The photographer or studio is regarded as the “author” and only they have the right to make or authorize copies.

The fact that you paid them to make the photo doesn’t change the rules. Photos don’t even have to be marked © or be printed with the studio name, they are automatically protected.

While we don’t necessarily agree with the law, we do obey it. Photos taken before 1978 may not be subject to such coverage.

Getting Permission to copy professional photos

In almost every case where the photo is at least 2 years old, Portrait Studios will give (or sell) permission for us to make copies of your older family portraits.

All you have to do is call their office (you as the customer have to do this, we can’t) and request permission. Have them fax permission, on their letterhead, to us at 803 641-0508.
