Long Live the new ETX-90/EC!

Most good telescopes are too big. Most small telescopes aren't very good. Meade's ETX goes anywhere and presents the finest optical images - bar none - ever made available in an ultraportable telescope. It's been popular with both beginners and advanced astronomers since its introduction.

Now there's a new model. The ETX-90/EC has all the features of the ETX plus the computer-controlled drive.

Made entirely in the United States, the ETX-90/EC features super-multi-coating on all the optical surfaces which maximizes light transmission. Meade is pretty bold: they warranty that the optics will equal or exceed the optical performance and resolution of any Maksutov optics of similar aperture ever manufactured at any price.

The included 26mm Super Plössl 26mm eyepiece provides 48X magnification. Other eyepieces provide magnification from 31X to over 300X.

What comes with it: in addition to the 26mm eyepiece, a 8x21mm erect image viewfinder enables you to quickly locate and center both terrestrial and astronomical objects. There's a cordless motor drive for fully automatic tracking. (like all toys, the batteries are not included - standard AAs will last for about 50 hours) Switch the motor on and the telescope automatically tracks astronomical objects, fully compensating for the Earth's rotation. A North-South switch permits drive operation anywhere in the world. Pushbutton Hand Controller (included) has four dual-axis speeds: 8x for image centering in the main telescope at high power; 32x for image centering in the main telescope at low power of for pushbutton object tracking in the altazimuth mode; 0.75°/second for for image centering in the viewfinder or for terrestrial tracking; 5°/second for fast slewing across the sky.

Add the #497 Autostar Computer Controller to your ETX-90/EC for fully automatic GO TO capability for over 12,000 objects. The #497 controller has an automatic dual-axis GO TO function at 5°/second for more than 12,000 database objects. It can GO TO any object of know R.A. and Dec.

There's also an RS-232 Serial Port on the  #497 Autostar Computer Controller for operation of the telescope through a personal computer, using Meade sky software or programs of the user's own writing.

The ETX-90/EC does not include as standard the table tripod legs that came with the ETX. They are now an option at $29.95 plus shipping.
