Photo Class - updated information as of 9/10/2001

Our fall session will start Wednesday, October 3, 2001.

Meeting Time and Place Wednesday nights 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm for four weeks:

  • October 3
  • October 10
  • October 17
  • October 24

Class sessions will meet in  the Aiken Center for the Arts.

Fee: $45 for Members, $55 for non-Members

Sessions will begin promptly at 7 p.m. each evening and last until 8:30 p.m..

Students should have a camera with creative control, such as a single lens reflex, to best enjoy the course. Point and shoot cameras just don't have the flexibility to take advantage of all that you'll learn.

The Nuts and Bolts of Photography

Session 1: the camera and its controls. What all those numbers mean. Loading your camera and setting it for different conditions. Selecting film and filters.

Session 2: Color as seen and photographed.  Mixing and matching light sources. Lighting – studio and flash. Posing for better pictures of people.

Session 3:  A brief introduction to Adobe Photoshop on the computer and how it can improve photos. E-mailing pictures and putting your family album online.

Session 4: Composition and lens selection. Depth of field – what it is, how we control it. Selective focusing and motion blur. Getting up close and personal – close up photography. Antiques and collectibles.

Additional topics of discussion:

  • care of photo equipment
  • developing your own film
  • why your camera won’t work
  • avoiding red eyes

In first session of each 4-week segment, instructor will take every question/concern of students and be sure to cover that topic if possible.
